Sadly, though, what constitutes the “presence” of the Spirit is a subject on which there is considerable disagreement. For the cessationist it may be little more than affirming the Spirit’s role in illuminating the text and empowering mortification of the flesh. For the charismatic it may entail prophetic words, healing of the sick, deliverance from demonic bondage and other expressions of overt power.
